I’ve been wanting to get LASIK for years. But like many people, I kept putting it off—partly because I wasn’t sure where to get it done, and partly because, well… it’s my eyes! Then I found out that in Japan, not only is LASIK available to foreigners, but the technology is also super advanced. That’s when I finally decided: Let’s do this.
My Struggles Before LASIK
I’ve worn glasses for over 11 years. My eyesight was pretty bad—minus 7.0 in my left eye, minus 5.5 in my right, and I had 1.5 astigmatism. I also love playing football, but wearing glasses on the field? Not practical at all. They’d fog up, fall off, or get in the way constantly. I couldn’t even switch to contacts easily—they were uncomfortable and didn’t work well for my astigmatism.
LASIK seemed like the only real solution if I wanted more freedom in my daily life.
My LASIK Experience at Shinagawa LASIK Center (Osaka)
I had my procedure done at Shinagawa LASIK Center in Osaka. Honestly, I felt calm when I first arrived—there were a lot of people there, which somehow reassured me. It felt like this was a normal thing people really trusted.
But I won’t lie: I was really nervous before the surgery. It’s your eyes, after all. That fear is natural. But the procedure was surprisingly quick. I was in and out faster than I expected, and the staff was very professional the entire time. Recovery & First Weeks After LASIK
I’m now almost three weeks post-op, and recovery is going well. I can already see clearly without glasses, and that alone feels amazing. I’m still being careful—no heavy workouts or sports yet, as I was advised to wait 1–3 months before playing football again. But once I’m cleared, I’m looking forward to hitting the field without worrying about glasses.
What Changed After LASIK?
The biggest change? Waking up and not reaching for my glasses. It’s such a small thing, but it’s life-changing.
No more fogged-up lenses in winter, no more glasses sliding off my nose, and no more worrying about broken frames. Just clear, stable vision—something I haven’t had since I was a kid.
There was a moment, maybe a few days after surgery, when I looked out the window and realized I could see everything—crisp, clear, and sharp. That’s when I said to myself: This was so worth it.
Would I Recommend LASIK?
Absolutely! But with one important note. I don’t think LASIK is for everyone. But if you feel like your life would be more comfortable, more active, or just easier without glasses or contacts, then yes, LASIK is 100% worth it.
It’s not just about looks or convenience—it’s about gaining freedom.
