Thinking about getting LASIK in Japan? One of the less talked-about (but actually important!) considerations is timing. While LASIK is a quick and safe procedure year-round, certain seasons can make the experience more comfortable, especially if you’re living in or traveling to Japan.

🌸 Spring (March to May)
Pros:
- Comfortable weather—not too hot or humid
- Easier to heal without sweating or dryness
- Less risk of seasonal illnesses like the flu
Cons:
- It’s pollen season in Japan, so if you have allergies (hay fever is common), spring might be irritating for your eyes post-surgery.

☀️ Summer (June to August)
Pros:
- More vacation days are available, especially for students or teachers
- Great if you plan to recover indoors with A/C
Cons:
- High humidity and heat can make eye discomfort worse
- Sweating and outdoor activities might be off-limits during recovery
- UV exposure is stronger, so you’ll need sunglasses religiously
If you’re getting LASIK in summer, make sure to wear UV-blocking sunglasses and avoid staying under the sun for too long.

🍁 Autumn (September to November) — 💡 Best Season Overall
Pros:
- Mild weather and low humidity—perfect for recovery
- No heavy pollen or flu seasons
- Ideal for people who want to get LASIK before the busy end-of-year holidays
Cons:
- Clinics may get busier in October and November—book early!
Many locals and foreigners alike say autumn is the most comfortable season to get LASIK in Japan.

❄️ Winter (December to February)
Pros:
- Cooler air helps reduce inflammation
- Easier to rest and stay indoors
Cons:
- The air can be very dry, which may cause more dry eye symptoms post-surgery
- More colds and flu are circulating = avoid clinics if you’re not well
If you’re prone to dry eyes, consider stocking up on preservative-free eye drops and using a humidifier at home.
📝 So, When Should You Get LASIK?
There’s no “wrong” time of year—but if you want the smoothest healing and least discomfort, early autumn (September to October) tends to be the sweet spot.
I personally did my LASIK in April, and while the recovery was fine, I’d probably choose autumn next time for maximum comfort!
